A Hungarian member of parliament was arrested by the police after burning an Israeli flag at an anti-Zionist rally in Budapest Friday.

Budapest police said MP Balazs Lenhardt was released after questioning Friday night. Dozens of Hungarians had gathered outside the Foreign Ministry to protest Israeli humanitarian crimes on Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Lenhardt is an independent lawmaker who was formerly a member of the ultra-nationalist Jobbik party.

Jobbik leader Gabor Vona has condemned Hungary's cooperation with Israel, calling on agreements between the two states to be “canceled”.
Party members burned an Israeli flag in front of a major synagogue in Budapest in October, demanding that the government cut diplomatic and economic ties with Tel Aviv.
