Prisoner dies in Palestinian Authority jail

A 40-year-old Palestinian man died in a Palestinian West Bank prison, two days after being arrested on assault charges.
The PA attorney general denied that Ayman Mohammed Sharif Samara was tortured or beaten during interrogations and said an autopsy would be performed.
Samara’s family said he suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes.
An official who spoke on condition of anonymity said Saturday that the Palestinian attorney general has launched an investigation.
Human rights groups, including Human Rights Watch, have denounced poor living conditions and use of torture against detainees in Palestinian and Israeli prisons.
Last week, a Palestinian prisoner died in Israeli custody. An autopsy carried out by a Palestinian doctor showed that Jaradat was tortured.
The death of 30-year-old Arafat Jaradat sparked large protests across the West Bank and Gaza.
